Tai Chi, Kung Fu, & Qi Gong I began my Kung Fu training in the Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Long Form in 1984 with my Shrfu Glenn Gurman, while I was in college. Under Shrfu Gurman I studied Yang Style and Chen Style Tai Chi as well as Ba Gua Zhang, Northern Shaolin and Wing Chun and weapons sets. I also learned the Tai Chi Qi gong form as part of that system and the Ba Duan Jin or (Eight Silken Brocades). I currently teach a Yang style Tai Chi class in Corinth, Vt at the Corinth Town Hall on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8:00. I am also available for private lessons. If you are interested in a class or lessons please feel free contact me. Tai Chi is a martial art or (kung fu system) that originated in China. It is best know as a exercise for health and flexibility in the west. Chen Style was the original form from Chen Village, Yang Style is the most common form people are familiar with. Tai Chi has a number of health benefits including improved balance, circulation, flexibility and calming the mind. Most people don't think of it as a martial system but it is rooted in the kung fu lineages of China and includes both empty hand and weapons forms such as double edged sword, broad sword and spear or staff. It's characteristic slow and flowing motions conceal the strength and intention required for mastery. It is however a gentle exercise that can be practiced for a lifetime at any age. Qi Gong (kung) Is a term that means to move or direct energy (qi) with practice. There are many Qi Gong forms that focus on different systems in the body but they all share the foundation of mental focus (intention) and breath. Some forms are hard or have tension and other are completely relaxed with minimal muscular effort. Some forms use only the breath and the mind to move qi.

Glynn Pellagrino, Lic. Ac. offers Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine with offices in Bradford and White River Junction, Vermont. Sessions by appointment. Learn more about balance and prevention here. Balance & Prevention Balance: The Key To Your Health As in nature, your body is in a constant state of fluctuation as it tries to balance many internal and external forces. Your health depends on maintaining internal homeostasis (the complex balance of all your bodily functions including thoughts and emotions). When that balance is disrupted for any reason- poor diet, stress, lack of exercise, overwork, not enough rest, trauma, injury, emotional issues- your health is affected. Therefore, in order to return the body to a harmonious state, some form of help is usually necessary to encourage the body's natural healing process. Diet Proper nutrition is the best way to stay healthy. Our food is the best medicine we can take. Used properly, it can correct most imbalances in our systems. A poor diet, on the other hand, is often the cause of many diseases. Prevention & Your Health Exercise The body also needs a variety of physical activities if it is to stay strong and flexible. Exercise is also essential for cleaning and lubricating our bodies. Rest Rest and relaxation are also required to balance our periods of activity. Sleep ensures that our bodies and minds have time to rebuild and repair tissues that may have become damaged or stressed and allows our minds to rest as well. If these three things are kept in balance, you can avoid the need for most other types of medicine. LEARN MORE Acupuncture & Holistic Health Care Chinese Medicine

It includes herbal medicine, acupuncture, diet, and physiotherapy, as well as qi (chi) gong and tui na ( Chinese massage). TCM: Has been in existence for over 3000 years. For centuries, practitioners of TCM have been researching and refining the skills and knowledge of these healing modalities. The uses of these therapies have been documented in China for many centuries and they have proven to be effective in the treatment of many common chronic and acute illnesses such as headache, back pain, asthma, allergies, tendonitis, digestive problems, menstrual disorders and many others. How Chinese Medicine Works In Chinese Medicine, chi (qi) or energy circulating in channels called meridians in the body, is responsible for the maintenance of good health. If the chi does not circulate smoothly through the body or there is too much or too little chi in a part of the body, then disease can occur. Chinese medicine works by balancing the flow of energy in the body. This is accomplished primarily by the use of acupuncture and herbal medicine as well as adjustments in diet and lifestyle.
