Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)
Traditional Chinese Medicine
TCM: Is a system of health care that originated
in China. It includes herbal medicine, acupuncture,
diet, and physiotherapy, as well as qi (chi) gong and
tui na ( Chinese massage).
TCM: Has been in existence for over 3000 years. For
centuries, practitioners of TCM have been researching
and refining the skills and knowledge of these healing
modalities. The uses of these therapies have been documented
in China for many centuries and they have proven to be
effective in the treatment of many common chronic
and acute illnesses such as headache, back pain, asthma,
allergies, tendonitis, digestive problems, menstrual
disorders and many others.
How Chinese Medicine Works
In Chinese Medicine, chi (qi) or energy circulating
in channels called meridians in the body, is
responsible for the maintenance of good health. If
the chi does not circulate smoothly through the
body or there is too much or too little chi in a part
of the body, then disease can occur. Chinese medicine
works by balancing the flow of energy in the body.
This is accomplished primarily by the use of acupuncture
and herbal medicine as well as adjustments in diet and lifestyle.
